Bio
Sannia Abdullah spent her career studying military strategy and operations, armed conflicts, and crisis behaviors. She is interested in exploring if states could learn to avoid military confrontation and what we can do to prevent a nuclear holocaust. Currently, Sannia is an affiliate at CISAC - Stanford University. Previously, she was a visiting scholar at Sandia National Labs (2018-2019) and worked on her book manuscript.
Sannia joined academic life in January 2011 as a faculty in the Department of Defense and Strategic Studies (Quaid-i-Azam University, Pakistan). While teaching and mentoring undergraduate students, she published her articles in Pakistan and the U.S. She completed her doctorate in July 2015. In 2016, she came to the U.S. to pursue her fellowship at Cooperative Monitoring Center, Sandia National Labs (Albuquerque, NM). In August 2017, she selected a Stanton Nuclear Security Postdoctoral Fellow at the Center for International Security and Cooperation (CISAC) at Stanford University.
In 2010, Sannia was a Research Scholar at the Institute of Strategic Studies Islamabad (ISSI) and worked on nuclear security issues. Sannia has been part of several India-Pakistan Track-II dialogues and learned decision-making trends from Table Top Exercises exploring escalation control and deterrence stability in South Asia.
Apart from research, Sannia hosts her podcast show 'Women with Ambition' to interview amazing women to share their journeys. Her podcast is available on Apple, Google, SoundCloud, and Spotify platforms.
